Origins

Palms for domestic and commercial landscaping.  Palms are monocots in the order of Arecales and derive from the family Arecaceae also known as Palmae.  Consisting of about 180 Genera there have been approximately 2600 species identified.  Palm habitats range from tropical rainforest to arid deserts and show the versatility of the plant.

Uses

Palms for domestic and commercial landscaping enhance lives in so many ways.  Palms provide mankind with a wide variety of food & drinks, cosmetics, decoration and practical commodities.  Food sources such as boiled vegetable flowers of Chamaedorea tepejilote (Pacao palm) and coconut milk and flesh, to the fronds of Johannesteijsmannia altifrons for roof coverings.  Additionally, everyday beautification of our living environment is provided by palms.  Palm products are found just about everywhere we look.

Nick’s Clivias specialises in the genus Chamaedorea as well as rare palms such as the Wedding Palm (Lytocaryum weddellianum) and many species endemic or suited to Australian conditions.
